MegDesk Celebrates Three Years

Austin, TX (7/26/02) – MegDesk News Update is currently celebrating its third year of publication. That’s right, folks! It’s been three years, and apparently, you haven’t given up on it yet!

MegDesk officially began publishing during the summer of 1999. The very first article, CJCK Release Postponed was originally an ICQ message sent to coworkers to vent about the unending stream of delays plaguing the editor’s work. When the site first went up on the Purdue University servers, it had two purposes. Not only was it a way to share the aforementioned article, which friends and coworkers claimed was a witty piece of writing, it also was a way to tell and retell the story of the tragic demise of the editor’s beloved ’92 Escort. Eventually, the site became a link for the editor to keep in touch with old and distant friends. “I found out that some of my friends from my hometown would check for updates to see how I was doing,” the editor recalls. “That became one of my strongest motivations to produce regular updates.”

Since its inception, the site has undergone a continuous stream of content and framework modifications. However, through it all, one thing has remained constant - the sporadic schedule of new issues. This is due to a combination of factors, one of the more significant of which is the lazy nature of the editor. “I try to update it as often as I can,” the editor said. “Sometimes there is no exciting or interesting news to report; sometimes I’m too busy to take the time to actually sit down and perform the updates; sometimes sitting in front of the computer just doesn’t sound like a lot of fun.”

The MegDesk editor reports that since blistering academic schedules are now only nightmares from the past, she will hopefully have the inclination and a free weekend once in a while to continue with updates.

“Here’s to three more years!” Congratulations and anniversary gifts can be sent to webmaster@megdesk.com.

Single Woman Adopts 3000 lb Baby

Austin, TX (6/09/02) - When most people think of a beautiful baby, they picture tiny hands and feet and an adorable cherubic smile. Few would picture blue skin and a 3000-pound body, but that is precisely the description that applies to the new baby of Meg Gotshall.

In late April, a hit-and-run driver struck Gotshall’s existing child in a parking lot and caused debilitating injuries. Thus, in mid-May Gotshall began investigating the possibility of a new adoption. After scouring the Internet for possibilities, she had a face-to-face encounter with the baby that she would soon call her own.

Having taken over care for the youngster earlier this month, Gotshall is now facing the financial strains common among single mothers. “Overall, she’ll be using a fairly large percentage of my income,” Gotshall said. “However, the biggest issue is actually with space.” Without adequate space to house both, Gotshall is planning to sell her older child. “I’ll probably put an advertisement in the UT-Austin newspaper,” she said. “I’m sure there’s a college student who’d love to have her, despite the deformities.”

Though Gotshall and her new adoptee have been living together for over a week, Gotshall has yet to decide on a name.“It’s never really been an issue to me,” she said. “It’s kind of like ‘Cat’ in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. ‘Car’ will do for now.”

Despite the financial strain, Gotshall says that the new addition has been a source of joy. “It’s been a lot of fun, so far,” Gotshall said, “especially when the weather’s nice.” Moreover, Gotshall is not the only one enjoying the new baby. Many of Gotshall’s friends have been admiring it and are eager to spend time with it.

Indiana Resident Missing

Franklin, IN (06/05/02) - Authorities report that as of June 3rd, Franklin resident Meg Gotshall had been missing for over 48 hours, and would therefore be officially listed as a missing person. Gotshall was last seen leaving her Franklin home around 8 o'clock Saturday morning in a purple Ford Aspire. Since that time, she has not been seen in or around Johnson County.

Though inconclusive, reports indicate that Gotshall may have been spotted in central Texas, more specifically, in northwest Austin. A woman matching Gotshall's description was seen moving boxes into an apartment only a few blocks from the complex where Gotshall took up residence for 3 months during the summer of 1999. The complex management was unavailable for comment, but sources say that the apartment, a 717-sq.ft. 2nd-floor 1-bedroom seems like it would be an appropriate choice for someone like Gotshall. "It's a pretty nice place," one informant said. "There are lots of cabinets, a wood-burning fireplace, and lots of trees around the balcony. Plus, there's a reserved carport just at the bottom of the stairs."

Sightings also place Gotshall at the Austin campus of the Schlumberger corporation. This evidence is more promising, as Gotshall has interned with the company on three occasions, twice at the Austin location.

Authorities are currently trying to reach Austin resident Michele Price, a friend of Gotshall's, who might have more information concerning her whereabouts. Moreover, Unverified correspondence indicates that Gotshall may be returning temporarily to Franklin in mid-July. Please direct concern and inquiries to:webmaster@megdesk.com.
